Field Trip #4
Our trip to the Estero Bay Historic Cottage and Matanzas Pass Preserve was informative and fun. We learned the name "Matanzas", of Matanzas Pass, comes from the spanish word slaughters. It is believed that this word described battles between the Calusas and the Spaniards. I enjoyed the presentation that was given, as well as the tasty seagrape jelly and lemonade. Afterward, we took a nice walk through the "mangrove loop" where we got to see the three main types of mangroves as well as many other native species of the salt marshes and bays. I liked the fact that we used the buses, and the thoughtful drinks and snacks to give us some nutrients on the trip.
