Conservation 2020

Conservation 2020 is a program in Lee county which has four main goals. To protect and preserve natural wildlife habitats, to protect and preserve water quality and supply, to protect developed lands from flooding, and to provide resource-based recreation. These four goals are met by increasing property taxes to fund the acquisition and protection of "environmentally critical" lands. I believe "environmentally critical" land refers to land with functioning wetlands and pristine natural habitats, that do, or are able to facilitate native flora and fauna. Although this is the first time I have heard of this program, I have visited Six Mile Cypress, Estero Buffer, and Koreshan historic site. I will definitely be visting more preserves in the future. I think this is an effective method of preservation.
